Jewish charities are just a small example of the wonderful charities out there. Some of the top Jewish charities are The Jewish Foundation, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the PEF/Israel Endowment Fund, United Community Jewish Federation and a few others all listed in a survey conducted by Forbes. Each charity supports different causes that affect the Jewish community and all are important.
A notable charity is Meir Panim, a non-profit organization that provides support to the population of Israel hit by poverty. According to the most recent statistics provided by Israel’s National Insurance Institute, 1,658,200 people are living below the poverty line. In order to help lower these numbers and better provide for the country as a whole, the organization offers programs such as Free Restaurants, Meals on Wheels, Meals for Children, Employment Horizons, Food Shopping Cards, and After School Youth Programs. They are dedicated to not only offering the immediate relief that many of these people need, but providing them with the tools necessary to once again become functioning members of Israeli society. Being able to offer such programs as After School Youth programs gives the future generation hope and the support they need to improve their lives and eventually break out of poverty. The programs these Jewish charities offer, including the important work that Meir Panim does, will not only provide a solution for now but help to prevent poverty from growing in Israel.
